An orthodontic clinic team is made up of highly trained professionals who work together to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care. Orthodontic assistants support chairside treatment and patient education, digital lab coordinators manage 3D scanning, treatment planning, and in-house appliance production, and records and sterilization technicians ensure accurate digital records, safety, and compliance. By combining clinical expertise with advanced digital workflows, the orthodontic team helps streamline appointments, improve treatment accuracy, and create a comfortable, modern experience for every patient.

Orthodontic Assistants
Responsibilities
- Support the orthodontist during clinical procedures by preparing materials, assisting with bonding, banding, archwires, and appliance placement, and ensuring patient comfort throughout treatment.
- Prepare and maintain dental instruments, supplies, and treatment areas while strictly following OSHA, CDC, and local infection control guidelines.
- Welcome and care for patients by collecting health histories, evaluating oral hygiene, taking dental records (including X-rays, impressions, digital scans, and photographs), and providing clear instructions.
Perform orthodontic clinical tasks such as placing and removing separators, fitting bands, checking brackets and bands, and assisting with appliance adjustments. - Accurately document procedures and treatment notes while maintaining clear communication with patients and the clinical team.

Digital Lab Coordinators
Responsibilities
- Digital lab coordinators are responsible for capturing accurate intraoral scans, preparing patients for scanning, and ensuring high-quality digital records that serve as the foundation for treatment planning.
- They coordinate case setup, submit cases through software platforms, and support the doctor by preparing and organizing digital treatment plans with accuracy and efficiency.
- A key responsibility is managing the full production workflow—including 3D printing, fabrication, and thermal forming—while ensuring quality, consistency, and minimal material waste.
- They maintain printers and lab equipment, track consumables, order supplies, and ensure the digital lab runs efficiently with proper maintenance and resource management.
- Digital lab coordinators act as a bridge between clinical, lab, and external partners—handling case tracking, packaging and shipping, vendor coordination, and internal communication to keep workflows running smoothly.

Sterilization & Records Tech
Responsibilities
- Sterilization technicians are responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing all clinical instruments in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines, ensuring a safe environment for both patients and team members.
- They monitor and maintain sterilization equipment (such as autoclaves), perform routine spore testing, and ensure all processes meet regulatory and practice compliance standards.
- Records technicians take diagnostic records including photographs, X-rays, and digital scans, ensuring all data is accurate, properly labeled, and stored within the practice management system.
- They restock treatment areas, organize instruments, and ensure operatories are fully prepared for each patient, helping maintain an efficient and on-time clinical schedule.
- By maintaining clean, organized sterilization and records areas, they help reduce errors, improve turnaround time for instruments, and support a smooth, streamlined patient experience.
