Educational and Learning Objectives Explored

1. Orthodontic Insurance
Orthodontic Insurance – Lesson 1 provides valuable insight on accepting insurance at your practice, the different types of insurance providers, and the pros and cons of each type. You’ll get an understanding of the positive effects of accepting insurance at your practice, including free marketing and increased patient traffic. This lesson also explains indemnity plans, which are the traditional fee-for-service plans. Next, we look at the participating provider plans, or PPOs, which generally require the doctor to provide a discounted rate to the insurance company. The benefit to this is the practice has increased exposure to potential patients through the insurance company’s marketing efforts.

2. Orthodontic and Dental Benefits Codes
As the insurance coordinator, you’ll need to become familiar with the codes used for properly filing a claim. Lesson 2 provides information and guidelines to help you navigate through the coding maze.

3. Insurance Billing
Lesson 3 offers suggestions to establish an insurance protocol in your practice that will make the process go much more smoothly. We will also offer six tips to help maximize your efforts when completing insurance claims, from verifying coverage to claim reimbursement. Then you’ll see how to create a form for the front desk receptionist that gathers all of the necessary information for each patient.

4. Tips for Success
Lesson 4 offers tips for success that address challenging situations you may face when dealing with insurance. In this lesson, we will also shed light on the concern and confusion over what codes are changed, updated, or deleted.

5. ACA and Medical Claims
In Lesson 5, you’ll become familiar with the Affordable Care Act and its impact on orthodontics. We’ll discuss dual coverage and filing claims under both the patient’s health insurance and the patient’s dental insurance. This lesson also defines medically necessary care, which can mean filing claims under their health insurance versus their dental insurance.
